A permanent resident alien is a foreign national who has been lawfully admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence. A foreign national who has been lawfully admitted for permanent residence enjoys such status by having been lawfully accorded the privilege of residing permanently in the U.S. as an immigrant in accordance with the immigration laws.
